Pine Grosbeak

This was a new bird in my birding adventures.  My  husband and I were hiking in the Weaselhead Nature area, on the west side of Calgary.   We came around a corner on the wooded trail and he spotted a bright red bird up in the trees.   We patiently watched and waited… in a matter of minutes, the fence posts were filled with red, yellow and orange varieties!  A flurry of activity.  When we got home, as usual, we did a little research and discovered these are Pine Grosbeaks.  The red ones are the males, the yellow ones are the female and the young can be anything in between.
